Ideal Weight Calculator

Calculates your ideal body weight using four established medical formulas — Devine, Robinson, Miller, and Hamwi — and shows the average. These formulas are used in clinical settings to determine medication dosing and nutritional targets.

Minimum 152 cm (5 ft)

Ideal Body Weight Formulas
FormulaMen (kg)Women (kg)
Devine (1974)50 + 2.3×(H−60)45.5 + 2.3×(H−60)
Robinson (1983)52 + 1.9×(H−60)49 + 1.7×(H−60)
Miller (1983)56.2 + 1.41×(H−60)53.1 + 1.36×(H−60)
Hamwi (1964)48 + 2.7×(H−60)45.5 + 2.2×(H−60)

H = height in inches. All formulas apply to heights ≥ 60 inches (152 cm). These are clinical estimation tools, not prescriptive targets.

How to use
Which formula is best?

All four formulas were developed in the 1960s–70s for clinical use. None of them is definitively 'best' — they give slightly different results because they were derived from different population studies. The average across all four is a reasonable estimate.

Limitations

These formulas don't account for body frame size, muscle mass, or ethnicity. Athletes or very muscular people may have an ideal weight well above these estimates. Think of the result as a general range, not a target.

Formula
Devine: Men = 50 + 2.3×(height_in − 60) Devine: Women = 45.5 + 2.3×(height_in − 60) (other formulas use different base weights and increments)
Tips
  • Height must be at least 5 feet (152 cm) — these formulas are not defined below that.
  • A healthy weight range is roughly ±10% around the ideal weight figure.
