How to use
Add VAT mode

Enter the net price (before tax) and rate. The calculator adds the VAT on top to give you the gross (tax-inclusive) price. Use this when quoting prices to consumers.

Remove VAT mode

Enter the gross price (already includes tax) and rate. The calculator extracts the net price and VAT amount. Use this when you've been given a tax-inclusive price and need the pre-tax value.

Common rates

UK: 20% standard, 5% reduced. EU: 20–25% varies by country. US sales tax: 5–10% varies by state. Australia GST: 10%. Always verify the current rate for your jurisdiction.

Tips
  • Removing VAT: don't simply take off the percentage — $120 with 20% VAT has a net of $100, not $96.
  • In the UK and EU, consumer prices are shown inclusive of VAT. In the US, sales tax is typically added at the point of sale.
